Girl, you and I must be sisters from different mothers. I've been calling for a women's strike for years! This is the best thing I've read all day. Other than the skanky opportunists in our ranks, whom I do not count, women are the majority in this country. We can be a formidable force--if we choose to be. Wish I were 50 years younger....

Linda, I find it very empowering too. A women's strike would be great. Look at What Trump has planned for women. It is going to be drastic. It took the women in Iceland years to organize, but they kept their eyes on the prize and it has had a long term effect. We need to do that too. The Women's March, now the People's March helped to galvanize people to get rid of Trump the first time. There is an all out power grab with some criminal in the Republican party who wants a Trump pardon putting out there that Trump should get to do a third term, just as the beginning of this catastrophe. NO WAY!

I'm not an economist, just a retired old lady. However, I've been wondering what the impact would be if everyone refused to shop, whether it be groceries, gas or incidentals (online included), for several days or better yet, a week. Given a large majority of the country were on board with this, what kind of impact would that make? And then, do it again & again. Decide to do with less and starve the economy. Amy thoughts?

Margie, I think boycotts are good, and making it one day works too. Unions in Germany and France have accomplished things they need by a well times one day strike. I have seen that in transportation. Threaten to strike on the busiest days.

There is actually a movement for a US wide strike, and that needs to have 3% of the population to be effective. It is called the General Strike, and they need around 11 million to sign on. They have around 150,000 right now. So, you might want to sign this and share it.

I also want to share this podcast a friend shared with me. Prof. Kim Lane Scheppele who lived in Hungary and Russia is telling us how the law is being used to destroy our democracy.

‘However, after seeing the money that Musk can throw at a party, and the exposure they can get on his global megaphone X, Musk had the CDU/CSU and the FDP parties slavering after some Musk money and attention and they told him that he should consider them too.’

Too late as both of our political parties have been corrupt, maybe forever. I lived through the Keating Five—that is another story—and found that if citizens want to organize and resist, they need to start by looking in a mirror to see the enemy. We are a country that ignored our own parties stench while holding our noses at the other party. We are a people who didn’t do the dirty work need for democracy to flourish, the dirty work of staying truly informed and keeping a close eye on the politicians we, ourselves , supported.

I had typed out an explanation in detail but as often happens with Substack, it just miraculously disappeared. So be it.

And always remember there are many forms in which we can participate. Especially for us older women, small things can be as effective a part of a women’s strike.

I love the idea!

There is a plan for a general strike in the US like the women's strike. https://generalstrikeus.com/

To be effective there need to be 11 million signed up, because 3.5% is considered effective. Of course Iceland had 90% which would be wonderful.

Please share this with your friends and family.

Excellent report.

(A minor glitch: it's "Martial Law," not Marshall law" - the only ones who do that are the MAGAts, since they're illiterate.)
