Yes Linda, he truly should be at loooonnng last. I followed your link from Joyce Vance’s post of her chickens. What a delightful relief to see her photos this morning after our revolting Orange nut case

declared war, that shriveled coward Mr shit pants all by his deranged self. And, I’ve admired you across the Atlantic and here as well for a long time.

Let’s all get active for impeaching the monster while trying our individual collective best to save our planet.

There is some discussion of whether Trump is tanking and whether VP JD Vance will find himself taking over this war. I don't think he is too excited about it. It will not be a good way to get into a presidency. And, then there is the discussion of Trump cancelling elections by imposing Martial Law. Nothing good can happen if we keep our mouths shut. We must be insisting to our elected reps that we see this as a violation of the law and we do not want to be at war with Iran.

Martial law suspending habeas corpus is exactly what I thought about last night, Linda. Typical from this cowardly lying piece of garbage. I apologize for using that kind of language, but

I hope you know the intent.

Thanks samani. Seems we are on the same page. A friend also just pointed out,

"I just realized that this "invasion" falls exactly on the 84th anniversary of Operation Barbarossa (Nazi Germany invading the Soviet Union). A coincidence?

We know how that turned out...."

I think she is on to something but doubt that Trump is making the connection. Maybe Netanyahu or some general. Maybe Putin who is probably livid about this war because it detracts from his.

I have been listening to the Bulwark. My mom, who is German and an anti-colonialist, took me to see The Battle of Algiers several times when I was a child. What I remember from it was 3 Algerian women getting their hair bleached blonde, or at least one of them did, and wearing French style clothing, and hair styles, went to the French sector with bombs in their purses and left them there. The French were not winning that war.

Remember the marches against Vietnam helped to end the war. Our marches can do the same.Trump is the exhausting president. I hope people who voted for him feel exhausted too. I think that those who support war think that the US can go make war somewhere else and we will be unscathed. I really hope that Europe does not speak in defense of Trump's actions. I hope they don't ignore them either.

Yes, Linda, I remember that from the movie.

I remember, too, the international diplomats all dressed up, all moving like the mechanical fools all were.

Trouble is, instead of the reliable fools, we've got two criminals, the orange felon in the White House, and the mass murderer rubbing his hands to take all the West Bank, all Gaza.

Both, poisoned souls. The U.S. criminal in chief is not only nowhere close to being any kind of diplomat, as you aptly note, but feeds so stupendously off his ego only that there's no telling the mass damages he will do with the mass arsenal he and drunk, also totally immature Hegseth have at their disposal.

His MAGA coterie won’t accept another war, except the NAR and Chritofascist end of world wastrels.

Knowing the world’s been laughing at him this week, made him an easy target for the saber rattling Warhawk’s.

I’ve begged for the end of financial and military support to Israel for years, I’ve referred to Israel as the 2nd largest terrorist group in the world. Yet here we are at war again, Irans response is as worrisome as Trumps idiocy! Thanks Linda!!

Patrick, Jonathan Last on a the Bulwark podcast tonight said that he thinks MAGA will fall in line behind Trump. The same ones who were last week saying not to go to war, will probably be saying how great it is. However, it is not them, but the other people who do not see any reason for us to join Israel in this war. I hope this helps oust Trump. If JD Vance inherits a war with Iran, I don't think he will be too popular. We shall see.

AOC says Trump should be impeached for making war without Congress approving it. She is right.

Misunderstanding how things work is a luxury of the educated in many instances. We are unfortunate that we did not do more to ensure our population was better education. I am not blaming all of Trump's votes on the 2/3 of the country that labor historian Jefferson Cowie tells us do not have a college degree, but we live in an increasingly complex world, and it is hard to manage.

I am getting more and more exposure to what my life will be like when I am 91-like my mom turned this past week, and it is not easy to negotiate without finger dexterity and memory. Letting one thing go wrong and letting it slide can snowball, but also take a draining amount of time and energy to straighten out. My daughter in university is getting guidance in this from us as she is adulting. So, on both ends I am reminded of how hard it is to have things go wrong, and I am not sure what the answer is.

People talk about MAGAs or Trump voters wanting a mythical better time, but I think most are focusing on the time after WW2 until Reagan came into office, as the GI Bill provided college educations and housing and working class people could have a decent life. Perhaps have a house and car and support a family on one income. I don't know. I come from a family where both of my parents had university degrees, so it is hard to compare.

I do not see any of this happening again for a long time unless we make it a priority. I never hear any politician talk about building social housing in the US, or child money or universal health care, and other things that is normal in other well off countries.

We are flooded. Everyone has the regular life things with work, family, health etc...

We have experienced a pandemic the Syrian and Ukrainian wars and other wars around the world as well as global warming making it harder for people to survive where they live and more people moving from their areas because of war, famine, no way to make a living. Then we have some people who have enough money to feed the world, eradicate many diseases and help us living more in harmony with the environment and yet most of them are not helping, they are continuing the harm. We need to get rid of Trump, the people that put him in power, and the conditions in our laws that allowed them to help Trump win.

I’m glad you made it home safely.

Donald Trump is like a little spoiled child, who operates under impulse and whim. He is not into long-term thinking and planning. He appears to think that he is smarter than anyone else, & is not open to any advice that contradicts what he wants and believes to be true. If a person no longer fully supports him, Trump will quickly disregard that person, & will inflict maximum pain in doing so. He’s all about revenge with no limits or compassion. He’s rude & he’s crude. The man lies so constantly that you cannot ever believe what he says without double checking it. He’s a coward who avoided serving in the military by cheating, and now he has unnecessarily immersed us in (another) war in the Middle East, in a vain attempt to appear as a strong President.

There will be retaliation by Iran and others who hate us, & the price will be paid by America service members & innocent civilians. I hope I am wrong, but I’m afraid I am right. We will see.

Jean, I totally agree. Jonathan Last of the Bulwark said on a podcast tonight, maybe Iran will fall in a couple of days like Assad of Syria did. I don't see Syria like that at all. All of the Syrians that I have met in the US in Germany likely don't think so either. I don't think Jonathan thinks that either. He was just saying maybe we are all wrong. However, Martin Beldersen of Ukraine: The Under Reported War Substack, said that most wars are not over in a year. This is a bad news weekend. Trump has regained the news, but we could take it back by marching.

Jean in Florida's avatar

I watched JVL, Tim, & Sarah on The Bulwark tonight when he said that. I agree, he doesn’t believe it either. I would have hoped that the USA would never again get involved in a war without an exit strategy - foolish me! But then again, Trump is not a typical President, & he surrounds himself with unqualified idiots. I am not sure how we will recover from the disaster of this Presidency, but a good start would be enough Republican members of Congress to find their courage & stand up on the side of the law.

Elizabeth, I saw signs that Said the same about monarchs. I saw so many wonderful signs. In some senses this war is not just retribution on Iran for not immediately doing what Trump asked, but also retribution on the American people for daring to protest his military parade and then us being so successful at it. We have a madman at the helm and now we are in war. We need to be marching against it.

Actually, the Pied Noir were of French and European descent whose ancestors settled in Algeria during the years France colonized Algeria, between 1830 and 1962. When native Algerians revolted and gained independence from France, the majority of residents of European descent left Algeria. As a student abroad in 1963-64, I learned some of this from my landlady, a Pied Noir.
